Putting Student Well-Being at the Heart of Learning
At PRODEV, student well-being is at the core of our mission, with health and psychosocial support integrated into education. Through initiatives like Appui à la Santé (Health Support), we partner with health centers in the South and West to provide free medical services to children and pregnant women. The ECHO 2 project offers psychosocial support in eight schools through group therapy, trauma-informed care, and resilience training. Wellness is robustly embedded in daily school life. Corporal punishment is prohibited and age-appropriate sex education focuses on consent and body awareness. Our school gardens reinforce healthy nutrition.
Since November 2023, worsening gang violence in the West has displaced thousands of families to the Great South, creating urgent healthcare needs. In response, PRODEV has strengthened the capacity of seven health centers and hospitals in the South and Grand’Anse, enabling 418 pregnant women and 1,652 children to access free consultations, lab tests, and medications.
We also established a community health center in the Village of La Renaissance, serving residents and students from Ecole Nouvelle Zoranje and other local schools, who additionally benefit from health education on nutrition, hygiene, physical activity, and disease prevention. By combining health services, mental well-being, and trauma-sensitive education, PRODEV takes a holistic, child-centered approach to ensure every learner thrives, even in times of crisis.
