Cultivating Knowledge and Nutrition
In response to rising food insecurity and the need for practical learning solutions, PRODEV launched Jaden Lekòl to support student nutrition and hands-on education.
The Jaden Lekòl project, carried out over a period of 22 months, enabled 2,250 students to learn about agriculture while promoting food security, environmental education, and student well-being in several schools across the South of Haiti. The project empowers students to grow vegetables like beans, carrots, okra, and spinach, which are later used in school canteens. Children learn hands-on agricultural skills—from preparing soil to harvesting—while gaining knowledge in biology, nutrition, and climate resilience. Parents and teachers are actively involved through garden committees, fostering community ownership. The program boosts student self-esteem and provides nutritious food, making learning more engaging, practical, and relevant to local needs.
