Lekòl Katye Keeps Schooling Strong
Lekòl Katye is a community-based initiative launched by PRODEV to ensure learning continuity amid insecurity and prolonged school closures in Haiti. Originally designed to reach vulnerable children through neighborhood learning spaces—set up in churches, courtyards, homes, and community centers under the guidance of trained parents, teachers, and volunteers—the program has adapted to local realities, even using RADYO EDIKATIF to broadcast lessons into homes in remote areas.
To address significant loss of school days, the program has established 84 learning groups in affected neighborhoods, providing targeted academic support including extracurricular activities such as sports, and cultural events to strengthen resilience and creativity. Students also receive snacks at each session to ensure good learning conditions, while teachers benefit from training in psychological first aid and social-emotional learning. In addition, PRODEV has distributed teaching materials, as well as kits for both teachers and students, reinforcing the program’s holistic approach to education, well-being, and community resilience during times of crisis.
