Escalating gang violence and widespread displacement continue to deepen Haiti’s humanitarian crisis. As of July 23, 2025, the United Nations reports that more than 1.3 million people have fled their homes, and 217,000 children suffer from acute malnutrition due to severe food insecurity.

More than 1,600 schools remain closed, a staggering increase of over two-thirds since early 2024. The breakdown in education leaves children vulnerable to exploitation and gang recruitment. Despite these mounting needs, Haiti has received less than 9% of the $908 million in humanitarian aid it requires this year.

PRODEV in Action: Supporting Displaced Children

In partnership with UNICEF, PRODEV is actively responding to the crisis by delivering educational and psychosocial support to vulnerable children across Haiti. Our initiatives are designed to restore a sense of stability and hope.

Program Highlights:

  • 100 schools targeted for outreach and support

  • 200 teachers and school administrators trained to deliver psychosocial care and hygiene education

  • 44,000 students (23,760 girls and 20,240 boys) in Port-au-Prince participating in after-school programs led by EDUPOL agents

  • 500 coaches recruited and trained to lead activities in Port-au-Prince (200), Les Cayes (100), Gonaïves (100), and Cap-Haïtien (100)

  • 15,000 children—including 9,000 girls—in camps and in partner schools are engaged in resilience-building and social-emotional learning programs

  • This summer, we provided intensive training to 35 coaches who will work in IDP camps with 100 EDUPOL officers, creating safe spaces for children living in camps to learn, play, and heal. Our training and onboarding of coaches is on-going.

End-of-Year Celebrations

Despite a year marked by turmoil, PRODEV schools concluded the academic year in July with joy and celebration. Across all campuses, students were honored in heartfelt ceremonies, attended by proud parents and community members.

At École Nouvelle Zoranje (ENZ), the end-of-year event was especially poignant as we bid farewell to our 9th-grade graduates. These students will now pursue secondary education in schools far from their community. We continue to dream of a future where ENZ can offer secondary education on-site.

Summer Camp Spotlight: Music and Joy

This summer, students from ENZ are participating in a special music education summer camp, blending creativity with fun. Camp activities include musical training, play-based learning, and nutritious meals, ensuring that even during school breaks, our children continue to grow and thrive.

Ann Chanje Wout: Creating New Pathways for Youth

Our heartfelt thanks to the Organization of American States (OAS) for its support to our Ann Chanje Wout initiative in the Village de la Renaissance. This program offers young adults meaningful alternatives to violence through fashion design and entrepreneurship training.

We are now working with our second cohort, and we’re proud to report that nearly half of our first graduating class are now earning a living as designers, tailors, and seamstresses—proof that opportunity and mentorship can transform lives.

Celebrating 30 Years of Impact

This year marks PRODEV’s 30th Anniversary, a time for gratitude, reflection, and renewed commitment. We are proud of our journey and the growing impact we’ve made in the lives of Haiti’s children. Together, we are shaping a brighter future.
