Coding to a Brighter Future
In today’s digitally connected world, computer literacy is becoming as essential as reading, writing, and math. While children in many developed countries begin coding as early as age six, access to technology in Haiti remains limited—often reserved for private school students with reliable electricity and internet.
To bridge this gap, PRODEV launched PRODEVTEK, an initiative funded by FOKAL that introduces coding, robotics, and digital literacy skills to students at Ecole Nouvelle Zoranje. Beginning with 4th graders and expanding through 9th grade, the program trains teachers, integrates technology into the curriculum, and ensures every 6th grader has meaningful exposure to digital learning. Thanks to this project, 35 sixth-grade students were introduced to computer programming, discovering how to write code and program robots to perform practical and creative tasks—an experience that sharpened their problem-solving skills and boosted their confidence. Beyond this initial group, all 421 students at the school benefited from the creation of a computer lab equipped with high-performance computers and a new internet system.
By fostering STEM learning, creativity, and resilience, PRODEVTEK is empowering students, inspiring pride among parents, and preparing a new generation for Haiti’s digital future.
